Clarence L. Shields, M.D. is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine, shoulder, elbow, and knees. He earned his medical doctorate at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska and completed his internship at the University of California Los Angeles Medical Center. He did his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at LAC/University of Southern California Medical Center. He completed his Sports Medicine Fellowship at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic. Dr. Shields is a Neutral Physician for the National Football League and is the former orthopaedic consultant for the Los Angeles Rams.
Dr. Shields is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the National Board of Medical Examiners. Dr. Shields is an active and significant contributor in the medical profession community. He is a past-president of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and was named “Mr. Sportsmedicine” by the AOSSM in 2006. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame by the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine in 2011. He is a member of a number of other medical professional societies including the Herodicus Society, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, Los Angeles, County Medical Associated, California Orthopaedic Association, Pan Pacific Surgical Association, American College of Sports Medicine, International Society of the Knee, International Arthroscopy Association, and Arthroscopy Association of North America. Dr. Shields has authored a book and numerous publications, editorials, and book chapters, and has facilitated over 200 lectures. He is the founder of Team HEAL Foundation, which provides certified athletic trainers and related services to athletes at participating high schools.
