Daniel B. F. Saris, MD, PhD, is a Consultant/Surgeon in the Department of Orthopedics/Sports Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN and Mayo Clinic Square in Minneapolis, MN. Dr. Saris graduated Medical School at the University of Amsterdam. He received his PhD degree in Orthopedics at the University of Utrecht in Amsterdam. During his orthopedic residency he did a fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN under Professor Shawn O’Driscoll of the Cartilage and Connective Tissue Research Laboratory and Professor Kai-Nan An of the Orthopedic Biomechanics Laboratory. This formed the basis for a strong interest and continued research presence in the field of biological reconstruction of joints and musculoskeletal function. Professor Saris was President of the International Cartilage Repair Society, Board member of the Arthroscopy Society, and Chairman of the ACL consensus group. Dr. Saris’ specific expertise is knee surgery from the simplest meniscus to complex total knee revision with international expertise in regenerative medicine and cartilage repair with cell technology. His research efforts focus on optimizing the regenerative biological capacity of the musculoskeletal system, improving treatment and understanding of knee afflictions, and to help in building an international network for ICRS with high potential and productive group dynamics.
