Dr. Kung is a board certified Clinical Assistant Professor of Plastic Surgery at the University of Michigan. He received his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University and then completed an integrated plastic surgery residency at Michigan Medicine. In addition, he pursued a reconstructive microsurgery fellowship at the University of Washington in Seattle. Dr. Kung specializes in microsurgical reconstruction to address functional and aesthetic challenges following cancer surgery, extremity trauma, and nerve injury. Dr. Kung’s research involves the development of a regenerative peripheral nerve interface (RPNI) to facilitate intuitive prosthetic control and sensory feedback. He also studies the potential of RPNI surgery to treat and prevent post-amputation pain after amputation injury.
